Unmasking the Dark Side of Cinema: How Movies Romanticize Toxic Relationships
Why do so many novels and movies teach kids, teens, and young adults to reframe control and predatory behavior as protection—and confuse instability and obsession with love?
In this multimedia presentation, I unmask the sinister side of cinema—how movies and shows often romanticize toxic relationships, especially targeting our most impressionable viewers. I highlight the warning signs of abusive relationships and share concrete examples of sexual harassment, giving attendees tools to recognize and respond to these behaviors in real life.
I share how this seemingly pleasurable yet violent media normalizes sexual harassment and domestic violence, increases their incidence, and even conditions victims to remain in abusive relationships. This perpetuates a culture of harm that we must unlearn together.
Unpacking Manipulation: Exploring the Different Types of Gaslighting
In this interactive multimedia presentation, I dig into the many different types of gaslighting—this form of psychological manipulation—and reveal how gaslighting shows up in everyday life, how systemic racism, sexism, and medical injustice use it against marginalized communities, how we internalize those lies and carry their pain, and most importantly — how to combat it.
Benevolent vs. Hostile Sexism: Exploring the Intersection of Race and Gender
In this workshop, I explore how sexism wears two faces—one openly hostile, the other deceptively kind—and how both are shaped by race. Through historical insights, extensive research, personal stories, spiritual reflection, and my original poetry, I uncover the damaging stereotypes that silence, punish, and erase Black women, while reinforcing inequality for everyone and raise awareness of the dangerous and traumatic aftermath of misogynoir.
Moving From Mistrust to Trust: What Will It Take?
Trust is the foundation of meaningful relationships—but what happens when it's broken? And more importantly, how do we rebuild it?
In this workshop, I explore the different types of safety people need to feel secure, the various forms of social support that sustain relationships, and the essential steps of an effective apology that actually heals.
Through interactive exercises and practical frameworks, attendees learn what different people need in relationships, how trust erodes, and—most critically—how sincerity and intentional action can mend what's been broken.
How Going Vegan Can Help Save the World
If we can feed ourselves without harming vulnerable populations, polluting the environment, participating in the brutal sacrifice of another life, or worsening our health, then why don’t we?
In this in-depth multimedia presentation, I explore how veganism isn’t just a diet—it’s a commitment to living responsibly across multiple dimensions:
→ Human Rights: Refusing to support industries that perpetuate forced labor
→ Environmental Stewardship: Reducing pollution and preserving natural resources
→ Public Health: Choosing foods that help prevent disease
→ Global Equity: Addressing food and water insecurity
→ Compassion: Honoring all sentient beings
→ Climate Action: Embracing one of the most impactful individual choices for our planet
Learn how something as small as what we put on our plate can create a ripple effect across the globe.
